Collage header showing digital art on iPad, hand-drawn sketch, and digital drawing, with text ‘Summer Workshops 3-Week Workshops | Ages 10+’ for Orange Easel art classes.
Similar to our school year classes (but not a repeat), these summer workshops offer a more focused experience, giving students time to explore ideas, build skills, and see how each session connects to a polished final piece.

Perfect for older elementary artists with some prior art experience, these workshops are ideal for students who enjoy learning new techniques and diving deep into the creative process. If your artist is excited by thoughtful projects and growing their skills, this is a perfect summer adventure.
Registration opens 9:00am 3/15/26

PLATTE WOODS: June 8th, 15th, and 22nd
5:00pm-7:00pm
For ages 10-18 years
Registration opens 9:00am 3/15/26

This three-week digital art workshop invites artists to bring their ideas to life using Procreate on the iPad. Students will explore digital drawing tools while learning how to design original characters and creatures from the ground up, focusing on thoughtful design choices and creative problem-solving.

As the class progresses, artists will build confidence working digitally and experiment with layers, brushes, and effects. This class is beginner-friendly but offers room to grow for more experienced young artists. In week three, we will explore some simple animation and practice bringing motion to our creations.

**Artists will need to bring their own iPad, Apple Pencil, and the Procreate app to participate in this class.**

$85.00
LIBERTY: June 8th, 15th, and 22nd
5:00pm-7:00pm
For ages 10-18 years
Registration opens 9:00am 3/15/26

This three-part illustrative drawing workshop is designed for artists who want to deepen their drawing skills and think more intentionally about visual storytelling. Using the playful, imaginative spirit of Dr. Seuss as inspiration (not replication), students will explore how characters, environments, and mark-making work together to create expressive, story-rich drawings.

Across the series, artists will experiment with whimsical character design, imaginative landscapes, and intentional line and color techniques. Each class builds on the last, and by the end of the workshop, students will leave with a finished composition featuring an original character set within their own imaginative world.

FAQs

Who are these workshops best for?
These workshops are ideal for older artists who enjoy drawing and creating and have some prior experience with art materials or classes. They’re a great fit for students who like to focus, try new techniques, and build skills over multiple sessions.

Does my child need to be an “advanced” artist?
No—artists don’t need to be advanced or perfect. That said, these workshops move at a more focused pace than many of our other summer programs and are best suited for students who are comfortable following multi-step projects and enjoy digging a little deeper into the creative process. If you're not sure, send us a message and tell us more about your kiddo or show us some pictures of their art, and we'll let you know!

What will students create?
Each workshop builds toward a finished piece. In the illustrative drawing workshop, artists will complete a final composition featuring an original character and imaginative world; we'll work on paper and use sharpies, microns, alcohol ink markers, and colored pencils. In the digital art workshop, students will create original digital artwork and explore simple animation techniques in the final session.  All art will remain in the digital format.

Do students need to attend all three weeks?
We strongly recommend attending all sessions. Each week builds on the last, and the full experience is designed to help artists develop ideas and skills over time.

What supplies are needed?
In the Illustrative Drawing Workshop, all supplies are provided by the studio.  For the Digital Art & Animation workshop, artists must bring their own iPad, Apple Pencil, and the Procreate app

Will there be free time or open play?
No. These workshops classes are structured studio sessions focused on completing the lesson and project within our three sessions. There is flexibility built in for creative choice, but no unstructured play time.

What if my child finishes early?
Instructors are prepared with thoughtful extension ideas so early finishers can continue refining, experimenting, or adding details without rushing others.

Are these classes similar to your school-year programs?
Yes. The workshops offer the same Orange Easel teaching philosophy—process-based, skill-focused, and supportive—just in an intensive 3-week format.  They are not a repeat of what is taught during the school year but there will be some overlap of skill lessons.

Is there a sibling discount?
No, due to supply costs, there is no sibling discount for these summer workshops

Can we stay and watch?
To support independence and focus, these summer workshops are drop-off classes. Parents are welcome to hang out in our lobby if they would like to be nearby. Our instructors will take great care of your artist while they create.
