here’s something magical about seeing an art show come to life. After months of creating, experimenting, revising, and preparing, our studio transformed into a gallery filled with color, imagination, personality, and heart. From tiny details to large-scale displays, every corner of the show reflected the creativity of our artists and the joy they bring to our community. We loved watching artists proudly stand beside their work, families explore the gallery together, and friends celebrate one another throughout the event. Below are some of our favorite moments from this year’s show. 🎨✨ 2025-26 Art Show Photo GalleryA huge thank you to our incredible Orange Easel instructor team for the countless hours spent planning, organizing, hanging artwork, preparing displays, and making this event possible. The art show is truly a team effort, and so much happens behind the scenes in the weeks leading up to opening night. We also want to thank the families of our instructors, who generously give up their Sunday to support our studio and help us create a meaningful experience for our students and community. And finally — thank you to our artists and families for being part of this tradition. We’re already excited for next year’s show. 💛

Every spring, we get to witness something really special. The Orange Easel Student Art Show is more than an exhibition of finished artwork — it’s a celebration of growth, courage, creativity, and the incredible artists who fill our classrooms all year long.
We believe artists deserve moments like this. Athletes have games. Musicians and dancers have performances. This is our artists’ moment to shine. This year’s show featured artwork from students across both studio locations and a wide range of ages, styles, and media. We are so proud of the creativity, originality, and effort represented throughout the exhibit. Below you’ll find a full list of our exhibiting artists as well as this year’s award recipients. Events like this only happen because of a creative community that values the arts and believes children deserve opportunities to create, explore, and be celebrated. And most importantly — thank you to our artists. Thank you for sharing your ideas, your imagination, your hard work, and your voices with us. We can’t wait to see where your creativity takes you next. Be sure to check out our companion gallery post (coming soon) featuring photos from the show, artwork displays, and moments from throughout the event!
If you had walked into my house during spring break in 2012, you would have found a group of kids gathered around my dining room table, covered in paint, paper, and big ideas. That week wasn’t part of a grand business plan. It was an experiment. A “let’s try this and see what happens” kind of moment. I had no idea at the time that it would grow into what we now know as Orange Easel. 2012: The Beginning (a.k.a. The Dining Room Days)Spring break camp. My dining room. A handful of kids. That’s where it all started. Later that year, we moved the chaos (and the creativity) downstairs and built out a basement studio. It felt official… but still very much homemade in the best way. Back then, it was simply called Miss Allison’s Art. And it was small, personal, and full of possibility. 2014: A Name, A Team, A LeapBy early 2014, I knew something had to shift. This was becoming bigger than just me. February 2014 — The First Hire Miss Sara joined the team as our very first employee. At the time, I didn’t fully realize how much I needed a teammate—but she was a game changer. Having someone beside me in this work changed everything. The Naming Night As we prepared to open our first commercial space, I knew one thing for sure: We couldn’t keep the name Miss Allison’s Art. We were building something bigger—a team, a community—and it needed a name that reflected that. So I gathered a group of my closest, creative mom-friends. We covered the tables in butcher paper, opened a couple bottles of wine, grabbed Sharpies, and started brainstorming. We asked big questions:
By the end of the night, two words were circled: Orange. Easel. That night, before going to bed, I designed the logo and bought the URL. And just like that—Orange Easel was born. August 2014 — First Studio Opens (Liberty location) We opened our first commercial location. It was a huge leap… and the beginning of something real. 2018: Growing Up August 2018 — Second Location (Platte Woods) We expanded and opened our second studio. More space. More artists. More opportunities to grow. Expanding Our Classes Up until this point, we focused on multimedia art. In 2018, we introduced drawing classes for the first time—opening the door for students who wanted to go deeper, build skills, and grow in new ways. 2020: Pivoting & Creating Something NewLke many small businesses, 2020 tested us in ways we never expected. But it also pushed us to think differently. That’s when we launched Creation Nation Art Club—our online art program. What started as a way to stay connected became something so much bigger:
2021: Growing LeadersWe introduced our Junior Staff Program—designed to give Orange Easel students their first job experience while building leadership skills. It’s become one of the things I’m most proud of: Watching students grow up in our program… and then step into leadership roles? That’s full-circle in the best way. 2023–2024: Meeting Artists Where They AreAs we’ve grown, one thing has stayed at the center of everything we do: Different kids learn differently. So we’ve continued to expanded our class offerings to reflect that. Creation Explorations For artists who thrive in open-ended, process-driven environments. Drawing 103 For students ready to level up, take on challenges, and really see what they’re capable of. These additions weren’t about adding more—they were about serving our artists better. TodayWhat started at a dining room table has grown into:
What’s Next? We’re still dreaming. On our “dream big” board, you’ll find ideas like:
But if there’s one thing I’ve learned since 2012, it’s this: Start small. Stay curious. Keep listening. Keep building. Thank YouIf you’ve been part of this journey—as a student, a parent, an instructor, or a supporter—thank you.
You’ve helped shape what Orange Easel is today. And we’re just getting started. This year, we’re filling baskets with things kids will actually use, love, and create with—because the world needs more artists, right? 🎨 Here are some of our favorite creative Easter basket ideas: The links in this post are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you choose to make a purchase—at no additional cost to you. As an Amazon Associates Program participant, I earn from qualifying purchases. We only share products we genuinely love and use in our studio or at home. Thanks for supporting Orange Easel! And bonus? These are the kinds of things that stick around long after the candy is gone.
A Week Full of Variety (Not Just One Kind of Art)One of the things that makes our camps unique is that we don’t focus on just one medium. Instead of a “painting camp” or a “drawing camp,” each week is built around a theme, and artists explore that theme through a wide variety of materials and techniques. Throughout the week, your child might:
And here’s the important part: 👉 Not every project will be every child’s favorite—and that’s intentional. Some kids fall in love with drawing. Others discover they love sculpture or mixed media. Our goal is to give every artist a chance to find something that clicks. Creative Choice Matters Here
A Balance of Structure + Creative FreedomEach camp day runs from 9:00am–3:00pm (Monday–Thursday) and follows a rhythm that gives kids both structure and space to explore. Arrival / Community Time This is when we gather, connect, and ease into our day. We'll offer some light creative invitations, have a meeting about the day ahead, play a game, and connect with others. Project Time This is when we work on the main daily project with instructor guidance and support. Station Time (Open-Ended Creativity)Outside of project time, artists get access to a variety of creative stations like:
They can:
A Strong Focus on Community
How We Handle the Age RangeOur camps are designed for ages 4–12, and we thoughtfully structure the day to support that range.
Is My Child Ready for Camp?We welcome our young artists beginning at age four, but they do need to be ready for a drop-off experience. That means:
What Happens If You Miss Time? The Big Picture If you’re looking for a summer experience that blends creativity, community, and confidence-building, we’d love to have your artist join us.
When our studios temporarily closed in 2020, we found ourselves wondering how we could keep our artists creating, learning, and connecting — even while apart. What began as a quick pivot to online art classes quickly grew into something so much bigger: a global community of artists who create together from living rooms, kitchen tables, and art corners all over the world. That’s how Creation Nation Art Club was born.
Over time, Creation Nation has become its own creative home. Some families join for the live classes; others love the flexibility of on-demand lessons they can do anytime. All of them are part of a bigger story: proof that creativity connects us, no matter where we live. Watch our story here:Interested in LIVE online art classes? We'd love for you to be a part of our club. Learn more here.
Winter has a way of shrinking our days. The sun sets earlier. Evenings feel longer. Everything slows down. And instead of fighting that darkness, what if we leaned into it? At Orange Easel, we love the idea of dark play—intentionally dimming the lights and inviting children to explore creativity in a new way. There’s something magical about it. Familiar materials suddenly feel brand new. Ordinary play turns into an experience. And kids lean in—curious, focused, and wide-eyed. Dark play isn’t about screens or overstimulation. It’s about novelty, atmosphere, and letting the environment do some of the work for you. Some of the links below are Amazon affiliate links. That means if you choose to purchase through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only share products we genuinely use and love in our studio or would happily recommend to our own families. Thanks for supporting Orange Easel! Here are a few easy, art-centered ways to bring dark play into your home this winter. Blacklight MagicA simple blacklight can completely transform everyday art materials. Try this:
Flashlight Play & Shadow ArtFlashlights invite experimentation and problem-solving without any setup stress. Easy ideas:
Quiet Glow Play (Perfect for Evenings)Not all dark play has to be high-energy.
Why Dark Play WorksDark play taps into something powerful:
It’s playful without being overwhelming—and perfect for winter evenings when everyone needs a little spark. A Gentle Reminder
Dark play doesn’t need to be elaborate or Pinterest-perfect. Sometimes all it takes is turning off the lights, handing your child a flashlight, and saying, “Let’s see what happens.” Winter may bring darkness earlier—but it also brings the perfect excuse to let creativity glow. When we think about gifts for kids, it’s easy to picture wrapping paper, boxes, and toys stacked under the tree. But some of the most memorable gifts don’t come in packages at all—they’re experiences. A morning spent dancing, a pottery class, a trip to the climbing gym, or tickets to a local theater show can all become memories that last far longer than any toy. “The best gifts don’t always come in packages.” Gifting experiences also helps support our local community—many of the best opportunities for kids to learn, move, and create come from small, family-run businesses right here in town. These experiences can range from special one-time workshops to weekly extracurriculars that nurture confidence, creativity, and friendships. Local Experiences That Make Wonderful GiftsIf you’re ready to wrap up something a little different this year, consider gifting an experience from one of our amazing local businesses. The Kansas City Northland and Liberty area is full of opportunities for kids to learn new skills, get creative, and discover what they love — from art and dance to cooking, music, and more. These small businesses pour their hearts into creating meaningful experiences for families, and when you choose to gift one of their programs, you’re not only giving a child a chance to grow — you’re also supporting the people who make our community vibrant. Because the world needs more artists—and we’re here to help you shop for them! When the air turns crisp and the leaves start to fall, it’s the perfect time for an art project that celebrates the beauty of autumn! This simple leaf printing activity is easy enough for preschoolers but creative enough to keep older kids (and parents!) engaged too. You don’t need fancy supplies—just a few leaves from your yard and a bit of paint. What You’ll Need
How to Do It
Why We Love This ProjectLeaf printing is a beautiful blend of nature and art. It encourages kids to observe the world around them, notice textures and shapes, and experiment with composition and layering. Plus—it’s a great excuse to go outside and collect materials! At Orange Easel, we believe the best art projects are simple, hands-on, and full of possibilities. This one checks every box. Next time you’re outside, grab a few leaves and give this a try. You’ll end up with something beautiful—and maybe a few painty fingerprints along the way. That’s part of the fun.
