Art in the Afternoon is a two-hour daytime art class for artists who want a deeper, more immersive creative experience. Each class features a single project with guided instruction, time to explore materials, plan compositions, and complete a finished artwork.

Designed for artists who love hands-on making and creative challenges, these sessions offer a true studio-style experience in one afternoon.
Registration opens 9:00am 3/15/26

About our Art in the Afternoon Classes

These two-hour afternoon workshops give artists the time and space to explore materials, practice techniques, plan their ideas, and bring a finished piece to life — all in one session. Each class begins with a simple, no-pressure arrival activity to warm up hands and minds, followed by guided exploration of the featured medium and a focused lesson from the instructor. Artists then plan their compositions and spend the majority of class time working independently with instructor support.

Because we have the gift of time, projects in Art in the Afternoon can be a little more ambitious. Artists may work larger, layer materials, refine details, and problem-solve along the way. There’s room for experimentation and thoughtful decision-making — just like real artists do.

These classes are especially popular with upper elementary and middle school artists who are ready for deeper creative challenges, homeschool families looking for meaningful daytime enrichment, and Orange Easel students who want to keep their creative momentum going all summer long.

This is not a drop-in craft. It’s a focused studio experience that celebrates process, independence, and artistic voice.

FAQs

What are we going to make?
Each class is a new project.  From sculpture to drawing to fiber arts and more!

Who are Evening Art Classes best for?
Evening Art Classes are designed for K–12th grade artists who attend summer school during the day, have busy daytime schedules, or want to try an Orange Easel class without committing to a multi-week session. Projects are structured to support younger artists while still allowing plenty of creative choice.

Are these classes step-by-step crafts?
No. Each class focuses on a specific skill, material, or process and provides clear guidance, but artists make their own creative decisions. The goal is confidence and exploration—not identical finished projects.

Do artists need prior experience?
No prior art experience is required. Instructors demonstrate techniques and support artists throughout the class so everyone can be successful. Like any skill, artists with more experience may approach the project differently or achieve more refined results. For example, an Orange Easel artist who has tried gel plate printing before may create stronger prints simply because they’ve had more practice—but every artist will learn, experiment, and leave with a finished piece they can be proud of.

What supplies should we bring?
All materials are provided. Artists just need to wear clothes they can get a little messy and bring their creativity.

Will there be free time or open play?
No. Evening classes are structured studio sessions focused on completing the featured project within the 90-minute timeframe. There is flexibility built in for creative choice, but no unstructured play time.

What if my child finishes early?
Instructors are prepared with thoughtful extension ideas so early finishers can continue refining, experimenting, or adding details without rushing others.

vAre these classes similar to your school-year programs?
Yes. Evening Art Classes offer the same Orange Easel teaching philosophy—process-based, skill-focused, and supportive—just in a single-session summer format.

Can siblings of different ages take the same class?
Yes! Evening classes are intentionally designed so artists of different ages can work successfully side-by-side, each at their own level.

Is there a sibling discount?
No, due to supply costs, there is no sibling discount for these single-session classes.

Can we stay and watch?
To support independence and focus, Evening Art Classes are drop-off classes. Parents are welcome to hang out in our lobby if they would like to be nearby. Our instructors will take great care of your artist while they create.
